Normally Windows OS is installed on the C: drive. BUT when you have 2 or more drives (or partitions), how do you change the default path of installation for any future software installs that will FILL your Windows drive.
How to set the default install location other than c: drive?
start %26gt; run %26gt; regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\wi...
(incase Yahoo cuts that off, I'll repeat it again, with spaces after the slashes)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ software\ microsoft\ windows\ currentversion
Change ProgramFilesDir to the new location that you want to be the default. (Right click and choose Modify)
Reply:windows update will automatically install on the root drive. usually C.
when installing other softwares, u can specify a location in the avanced option. i beleive some software don't give u the option of alternative location.
Reply:Future installations will be directed to the partition that you have the Windows OS installed on. You can usually choose which drive you want to install to in the installation process of the application.
If Windows is installed on your D: drive it will try to install to the Windows Programs folder on that drive.
