If you want to start up a 501(c)(3) business, are there any grant to help you set up the business?

A dear friend of mine is wanting to start up a non-profit [501(c)(3)] business to help people get Social Security Disability benefits. We just need to know if there are any grants that would help us rent office space, buy furniture and the needed electronic equipment to open up with.

If you want to start up a 501(c)(3) business, are there any grant to help you set up the business?
Bluegoat has a valid answer, your going to need to broaden it. I gave her a thumbs up. I started my own non profit organization called SOFTIN (www.seafaringopportunities.org) Do you have a B.O.D set up yet, how about your articles of incorporation? I can refer you over to a company that can really help you get established with your 501c3 status, state approval etc. They're called the Foundation group. Their web site is http://www.501c3.org An incredible company and can really help you get started.

Finding funding and grants will be very difficult to do. The competition is very high for funding among all the non profits. We have a program in our non profit organization that can help you with your funding. If you'd like further information, you may contact me at kaiden4@aol.com

Hope this helps you!
Reply:Thanks, it's a step in the right direction! They really helped us get going! Report It

Reply:Remember that a non-profit still has to make money, in your case for operational expenses as you describe it. You would be better off not putting money into space right away. You need to do a business plan first to figure out expenses and then, how you expect to bring in money. This will be asked on the 501 c 3 form. You need to figure out how to continue to bring in funds. Fund raisers? Auctions? Fundraising golf outings? Etc. Most successful non-profits have a person that is decidcated to fundraising. There are grants. Are you dealing with people who were turned down for SSD? Well, then you are not going to get government grants, as they denied them! (state/fed) You should expand your idea for this non-profit. It is too narrowly defined to be successful. Add to it filling out any type of form, assisting with finding a job, etc. etc. Understanding insurance/tax forms.....expand beyond SSD.
