Window A/C out of Window?

Can you use a window A/C and just set it on the floor, or does it really need to be sitting in a window to work properly. Am considering getting one but it wont fit in my window. Thanks.

Window A/C out of Window?
No, it has to be vented outside, an a/c unit is a heat exchanger, for every degree that's taken out of the cool air hot air is released outside. if you were to try and run it inside it would pump cold air out of one side and hot out of the other, due to inefficiencies in the system your room would heat up rather than cool down.

Also they produce water, you'd end up with a wet floor.
Reply:yeah it needs to sit in your window for one good reason...draining.

there are some stores that offer single room air conditioners however that do sit on the floor...but you still have to run some hoses out the window.
Reply:Yes it must be out the window, to draw air and drain .
Reply:They make them all different sizes hon, find one that fits.
Reply:Window a/c must be installed in a window or thru the wall to the outside.. There are many sizes available that will fit most windows.

You need to shop around. Measure your window opening first and start looking.

Portable a/c units are also available that might work. Ask about them when you are shopping.
Reply:air conditioning is about removing heat from one location and disposing of it in a more desirable location, (like outside). condensor coil has to be vented outside or you are spinning your wheels. cool air added to space from the evaporator coil will equal the hot air removed from the condensor. oh and the heat from compressor so actually your living space would be warmer!

yeap, gotta mount her in a window!
