Is frequent on and off of A/c through thermostat by setting on low temp will consume more electricity.?

Will it damage the compressor of a/c if we keep the setting at low temp. means if the room temp it 35 deg. and we set the temperature to 27 deg. it will cause the a/c to frequently on and off after reaching 2 deg below i.e 25 and will start again at 29 deg .will it consume more electricity. as it is said that a/c draws more electricity and load at the time starting.

Yes it can consume more power to switch on and off, but normally the power consumption with the constant on off is still less than continuous running due to the shear hours in operation. As for the compressor- this will not be an issue- do have it maintained regularly though.

I highly recommend taking steps to further insulate your home where possible, ie

Shut all doors and windows

Close curtains

For particularly sunny windows organise a sunshade or external blinds.

Alternatively can you change the setting on the aircon to give a slighly larger lee-way on the temp?
Reply:If your home is well insulated, the trick is to dial down your AC late at night when it's cool outside. In the morning, reset the thermostat to a desired temp and leave it alone. Constantly changing the setting is costly and unnecessary.
