How would you explain to a christian that the following prophecy was a set up:
Luke 19:41-44: "As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it
42and said, 'If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.
43The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.
44They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you.'"
Luke 21:20, 21: "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.
21Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city."
-New International Version-
(tony c): Atheists, how where the prophecies set up in the bible, in such a way that they were completed?
Sorry, but we're talking about the Middle East here! I think we could safely make predictions concerning this type of violence for any given point in the future, 50 years, 100 years, 1000 years, and sadly it will more than likely come true.
Reply:Well, actually, Mark was written some time after 70 AD. Matthew and Luke were written nearer the end of the century... both using Mark as a template. So... they already knew about the revolt and all. Finally... the gospels were complete fiction... INCLUDING all the characters. Jesus never existed... he was INVENTED around 70 AD. So... they could 'prophecize' things that had already happened. No problem. Also, since it was fiction, it was a very easy thing to look up a prophecy on scripture (Talmud), and then write a FICTIONAL account of it being fulfilled.
When are you guys going to get it... christianity is a FRAUD... a SCAM... you are VICTIMS of a criminal business enterprise.
.
Reply:Have you ever heard of self-fulfilling prophesies?
Reply:I prophesise that Christians will say that atheists are blind to the TRUTH.
Reply:Wow, you sure have a hyperactive mind, and how willing you are to stretch reality, completely bypassing the parts that are just wrong. We call it cherrypicking.
Reply:If your religion is so peaceful, why is it refering to a war?
Reply:Luke sorry to say was not written in 58, please provide me with any non christian link to confirm this. Sorry but of course the christiansare pushing for an earlier date of writting. I can provide you with many christian links showing you it was more likely written in 75-80 C.E.
Sorry but you are making a huge leap here. Writting a book 45 years after someone died I can have them say anything.
Reply:It was very easy. The "prophesies" you mention were written after the events they forecast, as were many others in both the OT and the NT. Hindsight is 20-20.
Reply:Prove it was written before the fall of Jerusalem.
Reply:First off, it could have been inspired by Satan. Everything you think is supernatural in the Bible could be Satan playing a giant trick on you, inspiring Christians and Muslims and every other religion to hate each other and end the world. Did i blow your mind?
Just think about what it would look like if it actually were a revelation of the future from God. Would it be vague? He would have named names, given dates, so on. And if he wouldn't give those, why would he give anything? The way it is written, it could apply to any time, wow saying a city in the middle east at the time would be attacked by armies, must be God! Was it surrounded by armies? or one army? Seems God would be specific. etc etc
