My home central A/C unit will only come on when set to "on" when set to "auto" I hear it running outside but

the inside unit does not come on. Does anyone know what the problem might be. My electricity bill was much more expensive last month due to this. (if it helps, I have a programmable electronic thermometer. I can set set the temperature as low as 65 and it never turns on inside, only outside)

I am assuming you refer to the fan switch- (auto/on)...

In the auto mode, the thermostat makes the fan output terminal "Hot" to allow the indoor fan to operate automatically, when there is a call for cooling. In the "On" position, the fan output terminal is constantly "Hot"- allowing a constant fan operation. If the fan does not operate in the automatic position, while there is a call for cooling, the sub base is defective- Replace the thermostat, as this will resolve the issue
Reply:You've got a bad thermostat. Run it on 'on' until you get the t-stat fixed.
Reply:Try replacing the battery inside the thermostat first. If that doesn't do the trick, definately need to see about getting a new one. They're reasonably inexpensive. Usually under $25.
